Prakriti@14: Revisiting our Evolution
As a learning organisation, every education space must learn to reflect and respond to the changing world rejuvenating on the strength of its core beliefs.
When Prakriti started 14 years ago, its founders had just this idea of education: in a world that often rushes forward, an ideal place to study is one that invites us to pause—and return to where it all begins, within ourselves. They hypothesized that true growth begins when we reconnect with our Swabhav, our inner nature. It is in this space of self-awareness that real learning unfolds—gently, joyfully, and with purpose. They called it “learning for happiness”.
This founding vision necessitated building a community where the seeds of curiosity, mindfulness, and purpose are sown with care—nurtured not only in children but in the hearts of parents too. When we start to look at the “whole-child”, instead of only education of the mind, the school becomes an integral education space, where social-emotional learning matters equally. In such a space, educators and parents are forever learning alongwith the children and growing in awareness.
What should the criteria of evaluating “learning for happiness” be? This led us to re-articulate our mission with educators, parents and learners:
Educating the ‘whole-child’ in a compassionate space to enable our learners lead with knowledge, empathy and integrity in a changing world.
How does this mission translate into practice? At the core of Prakriti’s ethos lie the 5 Ps, the foundational pillars that shape our daily interactions and practices.
How do we inspire ourselves to execute these 5Ps everyday? Here, we remind ourselves of the teachings of Lord Buddha – the principles of Karuna (compassion), Maitri (friendship), Mudita (joy), and Upekkha (freedom) – and we integrate these values into our curriculum.
A parent’s note below moved us to write the above piece for all of you. We are deeply grateful to her.
“Over these many years, I’ve witnessed Prakriti prosper—much like a child—from its early, formative years into a confident, evolving space that embraces curiosity, creativity, and compassion. Like any meaningful journey, there have been many highs and lows, but what has always stood out is the school’s resilience, commitment to its values, and constant reflection to do better.
As a parent, I feel so emotionally connected to the place that when in doubt, I just place my hand near my heart and say to myself “ALL IS WELL”. It’s been so heartening to see how the school has matured—its learning environments, thoughtful pedagogy, and the loving guidance of teachers have left a deep imprint on both my children. They love coming to school, and it has become a space where they feel safe, heard, and truly themselves. That kind of connection is rare, and we are deeply grateful for it.
Prakriti has not just been a school for us—it has been a partner in parenting, a community we cherish, and a space that has helped shape our children in the most holistic way.”
